Yacht Rental from Business Bay: Canal Cruises
Chartering a yacht from Business Bay isn't like the usual Dubai Marina or Palm trip. You start on the Dubai Water Canal, a 3.2 km waterway that connects Business Bay to the Arabian Gulf. The experience is part city cruise, part canal tour β you glide past high-rises, under footbridges, and through the heart of Dubai. It's the closest you can get to a yacht ride through the city's core.
Why Charter from Business Bay?
Business Bay sits east of Downtown Dubai, just behind the Burj Khalifa. The canal runs from here past Business Bay Crossing, Al Habtoor City, and Jumeirah 1 before opening into the Gulf near Jumeirah Beach Road. You see a side of Dubai most boat trips miss: the urban waterfront, the designer hotels, and the skyline from a low angle.
- Who it suits: corporate clients, private events, small groups who want a shorter trip with maximum city views. Less about open-water relaxation, more about a floating venue with a backdrop of towers.
- Best season: November to April, like all Dubai charters. Daytime temps 24-28Β°C. Evening cruises book quickly β sunset over the canal is popular.
- What you see: Burj Khalifa, Dubai Water Canal waterfall bridge, Al Habtoor City, La Perle theatre, Jumeirah Beach, and eventually the open coast near the Burj Al Arab.
How to Charter a Yacht from Business Bay
Charters from Business Bay run from licensed operators based at the canal. Most yachts are motor yachts between 40 and 70 feet. The smaller boats (31-35 ft day boats) work well for 6-8 guests. For events up to 12 guests, a 50-60 ft motor yacht is standard. Larger groups need certified inspected vessels β confirm at enquiry.
Pricing is similar to Dubai Marina:
- Small / day boats: ~AED 400-700 / hour
- Luxury motor yachts (40-70 ft): ~AED 3,000-5,000 / hour
- Plus 5% VAT on all bookings
These are indicative. Final price depends on yacht size, duration, catering, and season. Sunset and weekend slots cost more. Always confirm the exact rate when you enquire.
Charters are captained. You cannot self-drive. BYOB is often allowed subject to house rules β ask at booking.
What You See on the Water
The canal route has three distinct sections.
- Business Bay to Al Habtoor City: The yacht leaves the dock, passes through the Business Bay Crossing bridge, and follows the canal past the St. Regis, W Hotel, and the La Perle theatre. The Burj Khalifa stays visible to the south.
- The Waterfall Bridge: About halfway along, the canal crosses under the Sheikh Rashid Road bridge with its artificial waterfall. You see it from below β water cascading over glass panels.
- Jumeirah Beach to the Gulf: Past Jumeirah 1, the canal widens. You pass the Burj Al Arab on the left, then enter open water near Jumeirah Beach Residence. From here you can head toward the Palm Jumeirah or just cruise along the coast.
Most private charters from Business Bay stay within the canal and near-coast waters. Open-sea trips to the Palm or Atlantis are possible but add time and cost.
How Long Should You Charter?
Two hours is the minimum for a canal cruise β enough to see the route without feeling rushed. Three to four hours lets you head out to the coast and back. For events (corporate dinners, birthday parties), evening charters from sunset to 10pm are popular.
Events and Special Occasions
Business Bay canal cruises are good for fireworks viewings on UAE National Day (Dec 2) and New Year's Eve. The canal gives a front-row seat to the Burj Khalifa NYE fireworks without the crowds on the ground. These dates need booking weeks in advance.
