Superyacht Charters Dubai & Abu Dhabi: 100ft+ Guide

Superyacht charters (100ft+) in Dubai and Abu Dhabi: what they are, who they suit, capacity, costs, and how to book. Expert guide with real prices and rules.

Superyacht Charters: What You Need to Know

Superyachts—vessels 100 feet and over—are the top tier of UAE private charters. They offer serious space, multiple decks, and crew to match. They suit milestone celebrations, corporate events, or any group that expects the best.

This guide covers what defines a superyacht, who it's for, what it costs, and how it compares to other charter classes. All prices are indicative AED ranges. Exact rates depend on season, vessel age, and itinerary—confirm at enquiry.

What Counts as a Superyacht?

In Dubai and Abu Dhabi, "superyacht" means a motor or sailing yacht of 100 feet (30 metres) or longer. These are large enough for multiple guest cabins, dedicated crew quarters, and amenities like jacuzzis, sun decks, and formal dining areas.

They are not day boats. Most superyacht charters are booked for multi-day trips or full-day events with transfers, catering, and water toys included. Some operators offer single-day charters from Dubai Harbour or Abu Dhabi marinas.

Capacity: Guest Limits

The standard limit for private charters in UAE waters is 12 guests plus crew. That rule applies to most licensed vessels under 24 metres. For superyachts, larger guest counts are possible if the vessel holds a special inspection certificate. Always confirm capacity at booking.

Superyachts carry 4–8 crew on average: captain, deckhands, chefs, and stewards. Crew quarters are separate and do not count toward guest limits.

Typical Uses

Superyachts are not for a sunset cruise with a few friends. They are for:

  • Milestone birthdays and anniversaries
  • Corporate hospitality or team events
  • Weddings and proposals
  • Long weekends cruising to Zaya Nurai Island, Abu Dhabi mangroves, or the Palm
  • High-level business meetings in a private setting

That said, you can book a superyacht for a single-day charter from any Dubai departure point: Dubai Harbour, Dubai Marina, Palm Jumeirah, or Festival City. In Abu Dhabi, popular bases include Yas Marina, Emirates Palace Marina, and Marsa Al Bateen.

Price Range vs. Other Classes

Here is how superyacht pricing compares to other vessel types in the UAE. All prices are indicative and exclude 5% VAT. Superyachts also incur an APA (Advanced Provisioning Allowance) of 30–35% of the charter fee to cover fuel, food, drinks, and port fees.

Day Boats (31–35 ft)

  • ~AED 400–700 per hour
  • Small, no cabin, no crew quarters
  • Best for a quick spin, not luxury

Luxury Motor Yachts (40–70 ft)

  • ~AED 3,000–5,000 per hour
  • 1–2 cabins, basic crew (captain + helper)
  • Suitable for sunset cruises, day trips up to 8 guests

Catamarans (55 ft+)

  • ~AED 4,000–8,000 per hour
  • Stable ride, wide decks
  • Good for Abu Dhabi mangroves, large groups

Superyachts (100 ft+)

  • From ~USD 3,000 per day (around AED 11,000), plus 5% VAT and 30–35% APA
  • At the high end, Abu Dhabi F1 weekend charters can reach AED 1.7 million for a week
  • Multi-day trips typical; daily rates vary by length, age, and season

Booking Seasons

Peak season is November to April, when sea conditions are calmest and daytime temperatures range 24–28°C. October and April are shoulder months with good availability. If you want a sunset slot or a weekend date, book early.

Special events like New Year's Eve fireworks, UAE National Day (Dec 2), Dubai Boat Show (Feb/Mar), Abu Dhabi Boat Show (late Nov), and Abu Dhabi F1 (early Dec) push prices up and availability down.

Rules to Know

  • All private charters are captained. You cannot self-drive.
  • BYOB is allowed on most vessels, subject to house rules. Check in advance.
  • Guest limits are strictly enforced. No overloading.
  • Larger groups (over 12) require a certified inspected vessel. Enquire for options.

FAQ

Can I charter a superyacht for a few hours? Yes. Some operators offer half-day (4-hour) charters, but the value is lower per hour than a full day. For short cruises, a luxury motor yacht might suit better.

Are superyachts available for Abu Dhabi mangroves? Superyachts are too large for most mangrove channels. A catamaran or small motor yacht is better for the mangroves. However, superyachts can anchor off Saadiyat or Lulu Island and offer tender trips to the mangroves.

Do I need a special licence to charter a superyacht? No. You charter with crew included. No licence needed.

What does APA cover? APA is a prepaid fund—usually 30–35% of the charter fee—used for fuel, food, drinks, berthing fees, and port charges. Any unspent amount is refunded.
