Can I bring my own food and alcohol on a yacht charter?

One of the most common questions about chartering a yacht in the UAE is regarding food and drinks. The short answer is: Yes, you can bring your own.

Bringing Your Own Alcohol (BYOB)

Due to strict licensing laws in the UAE, yacht operators generally do not sell or provide alcohol. However, it is entirely legal for you to bring your own alcohol on board a private charter.

  • The crew will provide ice, coolers, and glassware (or high-quality plastic cups for safety).
  • You are responsible for carrying it onto the boat.
  • Important: You must consume the alcohol on the boat. Do not drink on the dock or in the marina before boarding.

Bringing Your Own Food

You are welcome to bring your own food. Many groups bring pizzas, sushi, or pre-made platters.

  • BBQ Grills: Many mid-size yachts have electric grills on the flybridge. The crew will cook the meat you bring, but you must request the use of the BBQ when booking.
  • Kitchen Facilities: Yachts have microwaves and fridges, but they are not designed for heavy cooking from scratch. Bring food that is ready to eat or just needs heating/grilling.

Ordering Catering Through the Operator

If you don't want the hassle of carrying bags of food, operators offer catering packages. These range from simple sandwich platters to private chefs cooking multi-course meals on superyachts. Expect to pay a premium for this convenience.
