Tipping on a yacht charter is customary, but it often causes confusion for first-time charterers. Here is how it works in the UAE.
Is tipping mandatory?
No. Tipping is always at your discretion and should be based on the quality of service you received.
How much should I tip?
The industry standard for day charters in the UAE is 5% to 10% of the total charter fee. For example, if your 4-hour charter cost AED 4,000, a tip of AED 200 to AED 400 is appropriate.
Who do I give the tip to?
Always hand the total tip to the Captain at the end of the charter. The Captain will divide the tip equally among the crew members (deckhands, stewardesses) who served you that day.
Cash or Card?
Cash is strongly preferred. Most operators do not have a way to process tips via credit card machines at the dock. Bring AED cash with you.
